Compare and Contrast
1/31/2012
Kevin Laswell

Eng101, a basic course taken as a freshman into College. Luckily, this is my second time taking the course. First, i had taken the course in the Fall of 2011 at JCTC in Shelbyville, KY. I am now enrolled in the class for the spring semester of 2012, at BCTC in Lexington, KY.

Taking the class for the first time was pretty overwhelming, my professor introduced himself with loads of works and handwriting assignments. After the first day or two of class, the lessons got very boring, they were long, stretched out lectures, giving us the general information on the work which we were doing. To say the least, it wasn't very interesting. Our writing assignments were given to us on already chosen topics, which didn't give us a very broad subject to write about. We rarely used computers, and when we did, it was to gather information about a subject we were or were not interested in.

Now, taking the same course at BCTC, we were introduced to the class by opening a blog, a new way of sharing ideas, and practicing our writing styles. A lecture is almost mandatory when your taking a college course, it happens all the time, but the way the professor at BCTC lectures, keeps you involved, he asks questions, rather than just blatantly telling you the information and expecting you to remember every little detail. We are assigned to write papers, but are only given the type of essay we are working on, rather than the main topic. I have so far, enjoyed the course at BCTC, far more than i did at JCTC.

In general, id have to say the classes and the coursework are very similar, but taking the same course in two different areas, has shown me how much the professor means to the class. Depending on how you like to work, how the professor teaches, or how you gather information, you may like one over the other, even though the course is exactly the same.
